Ygdrasil Design Commentary

My Ygdrasil

I chose to stick with the basic Ygdrasil design and simply enhance its appearance by using fonts and colors. I started by designing a logo and section headers in Paint Shop Pro, selecting a green I found restful and calm. I felt the logo needed a little more edge to it, so I used a drawing tool to make the ink blot. Once I had established my green, I used the color schemer to pick the purple. In order to maintain the clean, sparse look I was seeking, I chose to utilize only those two colors. I played around with a wide variety of fonts and eventually settled on Rage Italics for the headers and Georgia for the other text. I like the contrast of the wild Rage Italics in contrast to the calm and unassuming nature of Georgia. The section headers use Imprint MT Shadow. I tried to use that font in the HTML document itself but found it difficult to read and less impactful. I like how the purple horizontal rules tie the piece together.
